i-Dream Mission in Thailand, 2015
The week before Christmas, five youths brought gifts to Thailand. The gifts were for a small group of refugee children, who together with their parents and siblings, had fled their homeland in turbulent times. The families are waiting for a chance to start a new life in a country of their choice, but that wait can be for years. Because of their refugee status, their children have no means to attend the local schools meant for the country's citizens.
Pastor Danny, a member of Lifeline, decided to give these children a chance to have an education. Our youths have visited these children a couple of times for a few years now. We asked Pastor Danny how we could send a special gift to the children for Christmas. The kids expressed their ideal gift -- a Bible, a book on a topic of interest, a school bag, etc. Lifeliners were given a name and some information about that child to help them thoughtfully choose that special gift. The 5-member team delivered the gifts just before Christmas.
The youth team reported that they had spent meaningful time with each child and his/her family. They had personally brought the gift to the home. There is no better way to spend Christmas than to share God's love and to inspire hope in the people who need it most.
Mission in Thailand, 2013
A team of three visited Sangkhlaburi, Thailand from 17 - 22 March 2013. They ministered to the Karen people and also crossed the border to visit an orphanage in a Myanmar village. Our mission was to bring a message of hope to the displaced youths and church leaders at this border town.
The pastors and leaders requested teachings from the Book of Revelation. With the help of an interpreter, the lessons were delivered over 12 hours in two days. The youths had their basketball court fixed with custom made boards and metal rings (without the nets) to enjoy the game. Originally, the court had poles without the boards. The team gave them jerseys, trophies, and basketballs to encourage them to have fun and regular exercises after we leave. Some of the girls even enjoyed playing basketball! The youths also received instructions on Christian living.
At the orphanage, we gave the residents vitamin supplements. The kids welcomed the team with songs in their local tongue and even a couple of songs in English! The orphanage has very basic facilities. Parts of the building have yet to be built up. On the day of our visit, the pastor proudly showed us the well water he managed to pump up from the ground he had dug!
The team spent a fruitful two-day ministry. The 7-hour drive was relaxing. The team met old friends and made new ones too!
